Legal Manager – Payments Aggregators

About the role

American Express' General Counsel Organization in Mexico is looking for a Manager & Counsel to lead legal work for the Global Commercial Services (GMS) business line. The role focuses on payments‑related matters, supporting both internal teams and external partners across the payments ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal and strategic advice on a broad range of GMS relationships in a dynamic regulatory environment.
• Draft, review and negotiate complex global and local commercial contracts with fintechs, payment aggregators, merchant‑acquiring partners and other third parties, in both English and Spanish.
• Support the business in managing relationships with payment aggregators and e‑commerce partners, including advice on payment flows, merchant onboarding structures and brand‑related contractual arrangements.
• Offer thought leadership and legal guidance on cross‑functional initiatives and strategic projects.
• Coordinate with outside counsel on commercial litigation and related matters.
• Analyze new regulations or amendments, identify business impacts and ensure timely implementation of legal strategies.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with experience in payments, fintech or related commercial law.
• Demonstrated ability to negotiate and draft complex commercial agreements.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret regulatory changes.
• Experience collaborating with cross‑functional and global teams.
