Senior Accountant

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join HeadQuarters’ accounting team. The role focuses on managing accounts payable, payroll processing, expense and accrual accounting, and month‑end close activities while supporting our US cannabis‑industry clients.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee accounts payable: review purchase requests, invoices and approvals, ensure timely payments and resolve discrepancies.
• Process payroll for employees and contractors, reconcile transactions, maintain accurate employee data, and manage payroll tax filings.
• Handle expense and accrual accounting, including PTO, bonuses and contractor expenses, and reconcile related accounts.
• Execute month‑end close activities, perform GL coding, reconciliations and flux analysis for AP, payroll and accrual accounts.
• Collaborate with HR, Procurement and Operations to resolve financial issues and provide timely reports.
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation in AP, payroll and reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
• 5+ years of accounting experience with a focus on AP, payroll and month‑end close.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting and reconciliation.
• Detail‑oriented with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Experience with financial systems such as NetSuite, QuickBooks or SAP.
• Proficiency with payroll platforms.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
