About the role

The Counsel 3 position is an intermediate‑level legal role responsible for providing comprehensive legal counsel and support to Citi’s businesses and functions within the designated country or geography. The role focuses on electronic banking litigation and ensures that Citi operates in compliance with local laws and regulations while managing legal and regulatory risks.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and support to Country Business Management on regulatory, control, and legal matters related to Citi’s activities and entities.
• Ensure Citi addresses legal, regulatory, franchise, and reputational risks appropriately.
• Support strategic initiatives by interpreting relevant laws, rules, and industry practices for business managers.
• Coordinate internal and external legal support, working closely with Regional Product Counsel to deliver cost‑effective solutions.
• Develop a deep understanding of Citi’s businesses in the geography and identify major legal and regulatory risks.
• Collaborate with internal lines of business, control functions, and external counsel to achieve coordinated outcomes.
• Maintain strong relationships with local regulators and monitor legal developments affecting the business.
• Participate in country‑level governance committees and manage day‑to‑day legal matters.

Required profile

• Intermediate‑level legal professional with solid grounding in local banking and financial regulations.
• Strong ability to translate legal requirements into practical, business‑oriented solutions.
• Excellent judgment and strategic thinking to influence business decisions.
• Proven experience working with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
• Effective communication skills in both English and the local language.
