Back End Developer – Cash Equities Software Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced full‑stack developer with strong Java expertise to join HSBC’s Global Service Center Equities Technology / Cash & Electronic team. The role focuses on enhancing and maintaining a high‑performance global electronic trading platform for cash equities.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and deploy enhancements to HSBC’s electronic trading platform.
• Support, monitor and optimise existing components to ensure low‑latency performance.
• Collaborate with software engineers across multiple time zones.
• Automate repetitive tasks and reduce operational toil.

Required profile

• Solid hands‑on experience with low‑latency or real‑time systems.
• Excellent Java proficiency, including concurrency, tuning and memory management.
• Strong command of the Linux/UNIX command‑line interface.
• Experience with container runtimes (Docker, Podman) and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with message‑passing systems like Kafka and Aeron.
• Data‑driven optimisation skills (profiling, metrics collection).
• Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to leverage AI tools for software maintenance.
