Backend Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a highly skilled Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems that power advanced AI solutions for large enterprises. The role focuses on creating robust, composable services that integrate machine-learning models, databases, and cloud platforms. You will work remotely from Mexico as part of Avahi’s global, remote-first team.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable backend systems for document retrieval, processing pipelines, and AI-driven integrations.
• Write clean backend code that isolates I/O and infrastructure concerns, favoring pure transformations.
• Develop well-defined APIs for serving machine-learning models, vector databases, and embedding services with consistent error handling.
• Architect high-performance systems for AI training, simulation, and inference, ensuring reproducibility and scalability.
• Create internal tools and dashboards to monitor backend behavior and improve efficiency.
• Implement automation, monitoring, and observability mechanisms using logs, metrics, and traces.
• Build compositional integrations between fine-tuned AI models, databases, and downstream services.
• Contribute to internal tooling and open-source projects, keeping codebases testable and maintainable.
