Controls Engineer

About the role

Join Corning’s Optical Communications segment as a Controls Engineer, providing electrical and control system expertise for fiber‑optic cable manufacturing. You will support production, maintenance, and continuous‑improvement initiatives while driving cost‑reduction and capital‑expansion projects.

Key responsibilities

• Provide electrical and controls engineering support for production, maintenance, and improvement projects.
• Act as the internal subject‑matter expert for PLCs, HMIs, drives, sensors, and electro‑mechanical devices.
• Develop control architectures, functional specifications, and system integration requirements.
• Lead all project phases: design, build, testing, installation, start‑up, training, and technology transfer.
• Recommend and implement long‑term solutions for recurring equipment performance issues.
• Own the plant controls strategy, maintain standards, and configure OSI PI and MES systems.
• Support OEE, SPC, SQC, and ISO initiatives and assist with process‑data system projects.

Required profile

• Electrical or controls engineering background with experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of critical processes, risk identification, and feasibility testing.
• Ability to document system design specifications and provide technical support beyond associate‑level maintenance.
