Director, Legal Counsel – LATAM & Canada

About the role

PayPal is seeking an experienced financial regulatory attorney to lead its legal team across Latin America and Canada. Based in Mexico City, the Director, Legal Counsel will shape the strategic direction of the financial regulatory function, ensuring compliance and protecting the brand’s reputation in more than 200 markets.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the legal strategy for financial regulation in LATAM and Canada.
• Provide expert guidance on regulatory matters, including licensing, payments, and emerging fintech trends.
• Collaborate with global legal colleagues to align regional initiatives with worldwide policies.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of regional attorneys and counsel.
• Represent PayPal in discussions with regulators, industry groups, and government agencies.

Required profile

• Qualified attorney with extensive experience in financial regulatory law.
• Proven track record of leading legal teams in complex, multi‑jurisdictional environments.
• Strong understanding of payment ecosystems, fintech innovations, and cross‑border commerce.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with regulators and internal stakeholders.

• Experience managing legal risk and compliance programs.
