About the role
This position supports Médecins Sans Frontières operations in Afghanistan by acting as the technical focal point for pharmaceutical regulatory affairs and importation. The role reports hierarchically to the Afghanistan Country Representative and technically to the Section Pharmacist Focal Point, ensuring compliance with MSF protocols and local regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate pharmaceutical regulatory and importation matters across all MSF sections operating in Afghanistan.
- Ensure timely, compliant importation and availability of medical and pharmaceutical supplies in collaboration with the Supply Team.
- Provide strategic guidance on regulatory issues to the Afghanistan RA Pharmacist, Country Representative, Medical Coordinators and Country Pharmacists.
- Maintain sampling tracking files, report out‑of‑specification results and monitor short‑expiry or overstocked items.
- Monitor the regulatory, political and operational context and communicate upcoming changes that may affect operations.
- Liaise with national authorities, NGOs, UN agencies and other external stakeholders on quality and availability of essential medicines.
- Define, coordinate and monitor pre‑clearance and importation processes for medical goods.
- Maintain an on‑the‑ground presence to understand the local pharmaceutical market and regulatory environment.
Required profile
- Pharmacy degree or equivalent 4‑5 year diploma.
- 4‑5 years of professional experience, including work in developing countries or humanitarian settings.
- Experience with pharmaceutical regulatory affairs, importation compliance and liaison with national authorities.
- Familiarity with MSF protocols, standards and procedures.
