Protection & Control Engineer

About the role

The Protection & Control Engineer designs and delivers protection and control solutions for high‑voltage transmission and distribution substations, including AC, HVDC and FACTS projects. Working closely with designers, peer engineers and project leads, the role ensures reliable, safe, and compliant substation operation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop high‑quality protection schemes and detailed one‑line, three‑line, and AC/DC schematics for T&D substations, data centers, industrial sites and BESS applications.
• Perform peer reviews of protection and control drawings, including protection single‑line diagrams, panel layouts, wiring diagrams and tripping tables.
• Coordinate design efforts with electrical layout engineers, relay setting engineers, site managers, commissioning teams and field personnel.
• Interact with vendors to review technical documentation and ensure compliance with project specifications.
• Conduct design calculations for DC battery and charger sizing, voltage drops, auxiliary AC power, and support FAT/SAT procedures.
• Participate in engineering and constructability reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of design processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Fluent written and spoken English with strong presentation abilities.
• Self‑motivated, organized and able to meet deadlines while maintaining a safety‑first mindset.

Required skills

• IEC 61850 process and system bus architecture knowledge.
• Power system analysis tools such as ETAP and Aspen OneLiner for relay coordination, load flow, short‑circuit and arc‑flash studies.
• Familiarity with NERC‑CIP cyber‑security and grid interconnection standards.
• Experience with protection relay settings, tripping tables, logic diagrams and auxiliary power design.
