Software Engineer, Robotics

About the role

Scale's Robotics business unit is building the data infrastructure that powers Physical AI for robotics, autonomous vehicles, and computer vision. As a Software Engineer you will design and implement large‑scale data pipelines, ML training workflows, and real‑time tools that enable customers to collect, annotate, and evaluate robotics data.

Key responsibilities

• Own and architect large‑scale data processing pipelines for robotics and autonomous‑vehicle datasets.
• Build machine‑learning training and fine‑tuning pipelines using Scale’s robotics data.
• Develop end‑to‑end solutions across backend (Python, Node.js, C++) and frontend (React, TypeScript) stacks.
• Create tools for real‑time robotics data collection, teleoperation, model evaluation, data curation, and annotation.
• Collaborate directly with robotics and AV stakeholders to translate technical needs into product features.
• Design monitoring and evaluation frameworks for model performance and data quality.
• Resolve complex, late‑stage challenges in concurrent and real‑time robotic systems, including timing constraints and data integrity.
• Partner with ML engineers and researchers to bring robotics research into production.
• Deliver features rapidly while maintaining system reliability and performance.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with complex systems.
• Strong ability to research, analyze, and unblock hard technical problems independently.
• Proven experience working with cross‑functional teams of ML engineers, researchers, and customers.
• Excellent communication skills and a high degree of autonomy.
