Assistant Cost Manager – Urban Development Projects

About the role

The Assistant Cost Manager will support the delivery of urban development construction projects by preparing cost estimates, monitoring budgets and contributing to value‑engineering activities. Working closely with the project team and external vendors, you will help ensure financial performance aligns with client expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare cost estimations for all design phases.
• Monitor, control and prepare valuations throughout the project lifecycle.
• Participate in value‑engineering sessions and analyse change orders.
• Develop the primary project budget and progress measurement criteria with vendors.
• Collect market cost data and support the quotation process.
• Produce cash‑flow forecasts for internal and client reporting.
• Quantify materials and labour for each project phase.
• Conduct cost‑benefit analyses and review budgets after design package issuance.
• Issue weekly progress reports on project costs, including forecasting reimbursable expenses.
• Attend weekly project and departmental meetings and contribute to recommendation reports.

Required profile

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering or Architecture (or equivalent).
• Minimum 3 years of experience in cost management or quantity surveying.
• Strong understanding of construction components and overall project costs.
• Fluent English with excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Self‑motivated, proactive and able to work collaboratively within a construction team.
• Commercial awareness and ability to negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience using CostX, CATO or similar cost‑estimation software.
• Familiarity with BIM measurement tools.
