Cargo Operator

About the role

The Cargo Operator is responsible for safe and efficient execution of cargo and cargo‑utility operations on offshore vessels. The role includes loading and off‑loading cargo, maintaining cargo systems, and performing a range of preservation and maintenance tasks to ensure equipment reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, start‑up, monitor and shut‑down marine and cargo operations in accordance with safety procedures.
• Isolate, maintain and reinstate pump‑room and cargo systems, conduct toolbox talks and work under Permit‑to‑Work (PTW) and isolation certificates.
• Carry out tank entry, inspection, cleaning, blasting, painting, greasing and preservation of topside items such as flanges, bolts and valves.
• Test isolations, depressurise, drain, vent and de‑gas plant equipment following approved procedures.
• Monitor pollution‑control measures, report and halt unplanned discharges, and manage waste disposal according to regulations.
• Participate in emergency‑response duties, including drills and real‑time incidents as defined in the station bill.

Required profile

• Demonstrated commitment to high safety standards and ability to work safely on offshore vessels.
• Technical competence in cargo handling, system isolation and preservation activities.
• Effective communication skills for coordination with team members and control centres.

Required skills

• Permit‑to‑Work (PTW) and isolation certification.
• Gas detection and H₂S monitoring.
• Electrical testing (voltage verification).
• Cargo loading and off‑loading procedures.
• Maintenance and preservation techniques (cleaning, blasting, painting, greasing).
• Pollution‑control and waste‑management procedures.
• Emergency‑response response and drill participation.
