Commodity Manager – Direct Materials

About the role

The Commodity Manager will lead all purchasing activities for direct materials, ensuring compliance with price, quality, environmental and ethical standards. You will be responsible for supplier selection, negotiation, and long‑term supply planning to minimise risk and maximise value for the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Manage an annual direct‑material spend of over USD 110 M.
• Oversee a portfolio of approximately 400 suppliers, negotiating total landed cost.
• Develop and execute comprehensive commodity strategies covering cost, technology, innovation and geographic optimisation.
• Maintain supplier relationships, monitor performance KPIs and ensure compliance across the purchasing organisation.
• Negotiate long‑term supply agreements and resolve supplier disputes swiftly.
• Collaborate with Treasury/Accounts Payable on credit‑hold issues and supplier debits.
• Lead cross‑functional cost‑reduction projects and early supplier integration for new program launches.
• Coach and develop a team of direct buyers, setting measurable objectives aligned with the business plan.
• Support Grand Traverse Stamping (GTS) and Torreon Plant 2 (TRN2) on quality, delivery and outsourced tooling matters.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing large‑scale direct‑material spend (USD 100 M+).
• Demonstrated ability to negotiate with a high volume of suppliers and drive cost reductions.
• Experience leading cross‑functional teams and supplier development initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of compliance, ethics and environmental standards in procurement.
