Cost Engineer - Construction Toys

About the role

Mattel Brick Shop is looking for a Cost Engineer to join its manufacturing plant in Monterey, Mexico. You will support the development of construction toy products by providing cost analysis, cost modeling, value engineering and cost intelligence across the product development lifecycle, working with Product Development, Design, Sourcing, Finance and Manufacturing teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain product cost estimates from concept through production, and identify category and platform cost trends.
• Prepare cost analyses to support design decisions, supplier negotiations and cost reduction initiatives.
• Evaluate product, tooling, packaging and manufacturing costs to find optimization opportunities.
• Partner with Product Development and Design to balance cost, quality and performance.
• Take part in Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA/VE) to reach target costs.
• Support cost publishing and reporting at key project milestones.
• Work with suppliers and manufacturers to understand cost drivers and recommend improvements.
• Help standardize cost engineering methods, tools and reporting, and build scalable cost estimation tools and cost models.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in cost engineering, product development, manufacturing, sourcing or a related function.
• Fluent in English and Spanish, with strong written and verbal communication.

Required skills

• Product costing, BOM analysis and knowledge of manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of plastics, injection molding, tooling and consumer product manufacturing is preferred.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
