Design Engineer 1 – Drivetrain R&D

About the role

Nissan is seeking a Design Engineer 1 to join the R&D Drivetrain team in Toluca. You will contribute to the development, validation, and release of drivetrain components, ensuring high quality and cost efficiency throughout the vehicle lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Design, specify, validate and release documentation for assigned drivetrain parts.
• Analyze incidents and propose counter‑measures during development, production and field claims.
• Identify and implement cost‑reduction ideas for components and systems.
• Provide on‑site support during vehicle development events to meet QCT targets.
• Report progress, status and next steps to senior management at project milestones.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Automotive, Mechatronics, Electromechanical or Mechanical Engineering.
• 1‑3 years of experience in the automotive industry or R&D.
• Fluent English (B2 level or higher).
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and organizational abilities.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time to Nissan plants, suppliers and dealers in Mexico and the USA.

Required skills

• CAD 3D/2D software proficiency.
• Microsoft Office – Excel and PowerPoint.
