Design Engineer – Structural Analysis

About the role

The Design Engineer will evaluate, validate, and optimize the structural integrity, strength, durability, and safety of Caterpillar products, equipment, and assemblies. Using analytical calculations, simulation tools, and engineering principles, you will ensure designs meet standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations while balancing performance, manufacturability, cost, and reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Perform linear and nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA) on components and assemblies.
• Conduct static, dynamic, fatigue, vibration, buckling, thermal, and impact analyses.
• Evaluate stress, strain, displacement, and load distribution under operational and extreme conditions.
• Validate designs through hand calculations and simulation correlation.
• Support tooling development, material selection, and manufacturing process evaluation.
• Ensure compliance with ASME, ISO, OSHA, Caterpillar standards, and customer‑specific requirements.
• Develop validation plans, support laboratory and field testing, and correlate test results with analytical predictions.
• Investigate structural failures, perform root‑cause analysis, and propose corrective actions.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Strong understanding of engineering standards and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to interpret and apply design factors of safety and strength requirements.
• Experience participating in design reviews and providing technical recommendations.
