Mechanical Design Engineer – Automation Equipment

About the role

The Mechanical Design Engineer will tackle complex design and engineering challenges within Corning's Optical Communications segment. You will contribute to process quality improvement across multiple locations, working from concept generation through to manufacturing start‑up.

Key responsibilities

• Develop mechanical solutions and process changes to eliminate manufacturing issues.
• Perform conceptual and detailed design of machines, products, and systems using 3D CAD and simulation tools.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional project teams to solve difficult mechanical engineering problems.
• Provide engineering‑level production support and troubleshoot process issues through data analysis and experimentation.
• Document engineering and operations procedures and updates.
• Specify and procure precision products, fixtures, and machine components from external suppliers.

Required profile

• Strong mechanical engineering background with experience in design and manufacturing processes.
• Proven ability to work in cross‑functional project teams from concept to production start‑up.
• Capability to translate engineering solutions into requirements, equipment, fixtures, and tooling designs.
