Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Motherson is seeking a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Americas team in Puebla, Mexico. You will design, develop, and integrate automation cells and mechanical systems throughout the product lifecycle, from concept to manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Create 2D/3D CAD models and detailed drawings for automation cells, assemblies, jigs, fixtures, and mechanical systems using SolidWorks, CATIA, and AutoCAD.
• Perform simulation, analysis, testing, and validation to ensure performance, quality, and compliance with key performance indicators such as OEE, cycle time, and cost.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (design, production, quality) to support system integration and product development.
• Ensure design for manufacturability, support process planning, and optimize assemblies using robots, AGVs, lines, and karakuri.
• Prepare, release, and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, blueprints, and process sheets.
• Support new product introduction, troubleshooting, supplier selection, and standards compliance (UL) for existing production cells.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5–10+ years of experience in mechanical design, product engineering, or manufacturing.
• Proven experience designing, building, and implementing automation and robotic cells.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design, materials, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
• Familiarity with CNC machining, tooling, assembly processes, lean methods, and advanced automation systems.
