Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer within Dematic’s Global Project Engineering organization, you will develop header steel support solutions that enable automation systems to be securely attached to building structures. You will work closely with project teams and customers to deliver designs on‑time and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Gather project information (building design, system design, customer requirements) to define support solutions.
• Create and verify CAD models, determine point loads, generate BOMs, and produce installation drawings.
• Design mechanical drawings for header steel layouts, composites, safety, pneumatic, guarding, and netting.
• Conduct quality audits, support cross‑audits, and review deliverables of less‑experienced engineers.
• Communicate progress, remove roadblocks, and coordinate a small team of engineers.
• Identify improvement opportunities that boost productivity and customer satisfaction.
• Manage budget aspects of design projects.
• Travel to customer sites as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or a related field.
• 2‑4 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in material handling or automation.
• Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and problem‑solving techniques.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Inventor.
• Experience with structural design and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
• Ability to create detailed mechanical drawings, BOMs, and installation documentation.
