Senior Data Scientist

About the role

Coursera's Data Science team builds data-driven products and products that power personalized learning at scale, using measurement, experimentation and causal inference. The Senior Data Scientist reports directly to the Director of Data Science and shapes marketing and product strategy through data-driven insights. The role focuses on user behavior tracking, user segmentation, marketing performance measurement, instrumentation, A/B testing and advanced analytics.

Key responsibilities

• Work with marketing and product teams to define KPIs and measure the impact of marketing efforts and product changes.
• Design instrumentation strategies and build and maintain data pipelines.
• Analyze user behavior, feedback and survey data to inform product improvements and engagement.
• Build and automate KPIs, run A/B tests and use predictive modeling to guide the product roadmap.
• Create dashboards and reports to share findings with stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics or a related field.
• 6-9 years of experience generating insights and recommendations for product or business teams.
• Strong SQL skills and advanced Python, with data manipulation libraries such as Pandas and NumPy.
• Applied statistics, including statistical inference, predictive modeling and A/B testing.
• Intermediate data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker) and ability to learn new tools; willingness to use GenAI tools for custom automation agents.
• Good communication and presentation skills, with experience presenting to teams and executives.

Preferred qualifications

• Familiarity with the ed-tech sector and platforms like Coursera.
• Experience with Airflow, Databricks and/or Looker.
• Experience with Amplitude.
