Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

About the role

Arkham is a Data & AI Platform that helps companies unify their data and use Machine Learning and Generative AI models to solve complex operational challenges. It is looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a strong backend focus to design and build the core platform services of its AI Operating System. The role suits engineers who enjoy high-performance systems, complex distributed challenges and scalable microservices, and involves large-scale data processing, real-time event-driven communication and mission-critical AI and analytics workloads.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement modular microservices following domain-driven design, scalability and fault-tolerance best practices.
• Build and optimize Kafka-based workflows for asynchronous, decoupled service communication.
• Develop robust APIs and backend systems in Python (primary) and Node.js (optional), focusing on performance and resilience.
• Implement monitoring, logging and alerting with Prometheus, Grafana and OpenTelemetry.
• Work with data engineers, analytics engineers and ML teams to design secure, efficient APIs and integrate services.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and promote secure coding practices such as OAuth2, RBAC and data encryption.

Required profile

• 5+ years building and maintaining production-grade backend systems.
• Strong knowledge of microservices, distributed systems and API design.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka, including consumer groups, message delivery semantics and dead-letter queue strategies.
• Solid understanding of relational databases, query optimization and transactional integrity.
• Familiarity with concurrency models, async processing and non-blocking I/O.
• Experience with GitHub Actions, blue-green/canary deployments and infrastructure observability.
• Knowledge of OAuth2/OpenID, fine-grained access controls (e.g. OpenFGA) and data protection practices.
• Excellent communication skills and willingness to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
