Tool Room Technician I

About the role

Jabil is hiring a Tool Room Technician I who works under limited supervision to make intricate tools, jigs, fixtures, punches, molds, gauges and dies to tight tolerances. The technician plans work using the most economical method and the proper machines, and may assign machining of parts to machinists and draw sketches. The role may also involve helping the supervisor schedule work and acting as project group leader when required.

Key responsibilities

• Construct and repair machine shop tools, gauges, fixtures, jigs and dies used within the establishment.
• Perform work ranging from ordinary tool room operations to tasks requiring very close tolerances.
• Plan construction procedures and select the proper materials, allowing for shrinkage during heat treating and metal flow in dies.
• Lay out, fabricate and assemble dies, molds and machine tool fixtures from blueprints, sketches, models and specifications.
• Use machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments, compute dimensions and determine machining and material requirements.
• Recommend design revisions or material substitutions based on machine-ability or fabrication problems, and solve issues with unusual materials, work-holding, machine settings and production processes.
• Monitor and verify quality according to statistical process or other control procedures, and guide lower-level toolmakers.
• Support company safety and quality programs and perform other assigned duties.

Required profile

• Ability to read and write English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals and blueprints.
• Ability to perform basic math and follow work instructions.
