Critical Environment Field Service Engineer

About the role

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team is looking for a Critical Environment (CE) Field Service Engineer to support the core infrastructure of its global datacenters. The role involves ensuring high availability, safety, and efficiency of mechanical and electrical systems across leased datacenters that host services such as Azure, Office 365, Bing, and Xbox.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with data‑center policies and service‑level agreements.
• Manage programs and coordinate with internal teams and landlord partners to execute tasks and projects.
• Oversee day‑to‑day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment, including review of MOP/SOP/EOP, RCAs, FMEAs, change governance and risk mitigation.
• Reduce high‑impact CE incidents and drive cost/energy‑efficiency initiatives.
• Support emergency preparedness and act as escalation point for facilities‑related issues.
• Coordinate and supervise CE audits, compliance verification and routine reporting of power, temperature, humidity and SLA metrics.

Required profile

• Proven experience in data‑center operations or similar critical‑environment environments.
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems used in large‑scale facilities.
• Ability to follow safety and security procedures and report issues promptly.
• Experience conducting root‑cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
• Good organizational skills to manage programs, audits and reporting.
