About the role

Mastercard is expanding its Cross Border program within the Disbursement & Remittances business and seeks a seasoned Director of Software Engineering to lead the engineering function for this domain. The role combines hands‑on technical contribution with strategic leadership, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, scalable solutions that align with Mastercard’s architecture and business goals.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a high‑performing team of engineers, delivering software projects using agile methodologies.
• Own technology outcomes, technical and operational metrics, and ensure services deliver intended business benefits.
• Define and implement non‑functional requirements, release processes, and system architecture aligned with Mastercard standards.
• Collaborate with product owners to evolve product propositions and meet both business and technology imperatives.

Required profile

• 10‑15 years of experience designing and delivering enterprise‑grade, scalable software solutions.
• Proven leadership in guiding large engineering teams, mentoring talent, and managing budgets.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills across technical and executive audiences.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, prioritize competing demands, and drive results with urgency.

Required skills

• Java and Spring Boot development.
• RESTful APIs, event‑driven architectures, microservices, and Domain‑Driven Design.
• Agile and DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines.
• Software design patterns, secure coding standards, and SDLC management.
