Instrument Technician

About the role

The Instrument Technician is responsible for executing maintenance and preservation tasks on offshore vessels, ensuring the reliability and longevity of instrumentation assets. Reporting to the Instrument Supervisor, the role combines hands‑on dismantling, adjustment, testing and documentation while maintaining strict safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Dismantle and re‑assemble instrumentation equipment following correct isolation and disconnection procedures.
• Identify potential hazards before work begins and apply appropriate safety measures.
• Adjust instruments to meet operating specifications with minimal disruption.
• Perform cleaning, blasting, spraying/painting, greasing and preservation of topside items such as flanges, bolts and valves.
• Monitor and record equipment condition in work logs or maintenance histories.
• Diagnose faults using visual, close‑up and detailed inspections and apply suitable diagnostic tests.
• Communicate all activities and safety concerns to the supervisor in accordance with procedures.

Required profile

• Strong safety awareness and ability to follow detailed maintenance procedures.
• Technical competence in handling instrumentation equipment and related tools.
• Capability to identify hazards and implement corrective actions promptly.
• Effective communication with supervisors, subcontractors, visitors and vendor representatives.
• Authorization to maintain instrument assets safely.
