Inventory Control Accountant

About the role

Mill is a waste‑prevention technology company that transforms food scraps into valuable resources. As the first Inventory Control Accountant, you will build the core accounting processes that support our manufacturing and commercial operations.

Key responsibilities

• Establish foundational internal inventory accounting processes.
• Perform operational accounting and reporting, including detailed analysis, reconciliation, and reporting of accounts.
• Own accounting and reconciliation of inventory movements such as receipts, production consumption, transfers, returns, scrap, adjustments, and cycle‑count variances.
• Partner with contract manufacturers and suppliers to investigate discrepancies and align physical inventory with ERP records.
• Review and support landed cost accounting.
• Track and reconcile inventory balances by part/SKU on a monthly basis.
• Support inventory accuracy through regular reconciliation of raw materials, components, sub‑assemblies, work‑in‑process, and finished goods.
• Collaborate with the Controller and Operations teams to improve internal process efficiency.
• Establish monthly unit‑economics analysis and assess P&L impact of component costs.
• Assist with forecasting unit‑economics changes and translating them into financial impact.
• Contribute to creation or enhancement of internal controls around manufacturing, fulfillment, and deployment.
• Assist with financial statement audits.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business or a related field.
• At least 4 years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, with a focus on inventory control and month‑end close.
• Experience working with contract manufacturers and suppliers to resolve inventory discrepancies.
• Ability to analyze unit economics and translate changes into financial impact.
• Familiarity with financial statement audits and internal control development.
