Manufacturing Engineer – Fixture Design & Optimization

About the role

Caterpillar is seeking a proactive Manufacturing Engineer to drive the design, improvement, and optimization of production fixtures. You will work closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams to enhance efficiency, safety, and product quality across our manufacturing sites.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and refine fixtures, jigs, and tooling to improve productivity and repeatability.
• Analyze existing processes, identify cost‑saving opportunities, and implement optimization projects.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to resolve manufacturing issues and support new product introductions.
• Lead continuous‑improvement initiatives such as Lean, Kaizen, and 5S.
• Ensure fixtures meet ergonomic, safety, and quality standards.
• Evaluate and apply automation or semi‑automation solutions where appropriate.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions for tooling failures.
• Coordinate with suppliers for fixture fabrication, modifications, and validation.
• Maintain accurate documentation, including drawings, specifications, and process instructions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or related field.
• 1‑3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in a production environment.
• Proven track record of process improvement and tooling development.
• Strong understanding of machining, welding, assembly processes and GD&T.

Required skills

• AutoCAD (2D drafting and layout)
• Creo Parametric (3D modeling and OIS creation)
• Quicksilver (OIS creation)
• ERP systems: Baan LN, 5C, Oracle (SFIS, MRCA, Solumina)
• Knowledge of GD&T and technical drawing interpretation
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies (preferred)
