Mechanical Design Engineer – Tooling

About the role

AKKODIS is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer specialized in tooling to design, develop and validate production tooling and equipment for a vehicle manufacturing operation in Nuevo León, México. The role ensures manufacturability, safety and efficiency of tooling systems while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and release assembly tooling and equipment according to company standards.
• Maintain a 3D tooling library in the plant’s PDM system.
• Work with LTS and TPE engineers to meet production and ergonomic requirements.
• Create and manage 2D/3D CAD models, drawings and BOMs for tooling components.
• Provide technical support during installation, commissioning and try‑out phases.
• Generate RFQs, perform cost estimation and conduct supplier technical reviews.
• Ensure tooling safety and compliance with global manufacturing standards.
• Participate in equipment validation, mechanical, functional and dimensional buy‑off activities.
• Support continuous improvement and standardisation of tooling concepts.
• Interface with suppliers, maintenance and production teams to resolve equipment issues.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of experience in tooling design, fixture development or production equipment, preferably in the automotive sector.
• Proven ability to work in greenfield or launch environments.
• Strong analytical mindset and proactive problem‑solving approach.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software such as CATIA, NX or SolidWorks.
• Basic understanding of pneumatic systems (valves, actuators, sensors, control circuits).
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes including welding, fastening and mechanical assembly.
• Experience with equipment validation documentation (FMEA, safety checklists).
• Familiarity with overhead light crane systems or lifting equipment is a plus.
