Product Design Engineer – Mechanical (Power Transformers)

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Product Design Engineer to develop and optimise mechanical components for power transformer systems. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure mechanical designs meet electrical performance, safety, and quality standards while respecting environmental and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical parts such as windings, clamps, core structures, and fastening systems for transformers.
• Analyse the impact of tolerances, materials and geometries on electrical insulation, BIL levels and dielectric stress.
• Define grounding systems and current flow paths to prevent circulating currents.
• Create and maintain detailed engineering drawings, BOMs and manufacturing instructions (machining, welding, surface finish, corrosion protection).
• Collaborate with factory management, sales, marketing and technical teams to align designs with customer specifications and market trends.
• Ensure compliance with EHS, quality policies and international standards (ANSI, ASME, ISO, IEEE, CSA, ASTM, etc.).

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience, preferably in heavy industry or power transformer applications.
• Strong knowledge of electrical insulation principles (BIL, impulse withstand, partial discharge).
• Solid understanding of stress, deformation, material behaviour and steel structural design.
• Experience with metal‑mechanical manufacturing processes (cutting, bending, rolling, welding, machining, surface treatments).
• Professional proficiency in English and ability to work independently in remote environments.
