Product Development Engineer

About the role

As a member of Ford’s Product Development team in Mexico, you will lead the design, development and production launch of vehicle interior components and systems. You will work at the crossroads of design, engineering and manufacturing to turn innovative concepts into production‑ready solutions that meet high standards of safety, ergonomics and cost efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end design, development, validation and production release of interior components from concept to vehicle launch.
• Collaborate with design studio, craftsmanship and ergonomics teams to ensure aesthetic concepts are manufacturable.
• Conduct CAE studies, packaging studies and 3D CAD reviews with suppliers to optimise fit, finish, structure and performance.
• Direct technical supplier engagements, manage Statements of Work, DFMEA and PPAP processes.
• Maintain accurate PLM data, Bills of Materials and engineering change records to meet cost, weight and timing targets.
• Lead root‑cause analysis and problem‑solving using 8D and Six Sigma during prototype builds and plant launches.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5+ years of automotive product engineering experience focused on interior systems or component design.
• Practical experience with 3D CAD modeling (CATIA V5/V6 or Siemens NX) and familiarity with CAE analysis and vehicle packaging studies.
• Solid knowledge of interior manufacturing processes, plastic injection molding, interior materials and ergonomics.
