Senior Data Architect – Azure & Lakehouse

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Data Architect to lead the modernization of legacy ETL workloads into scalable cloud lakehouse architectures on Azure. The role combines architecture ownership, hands‑on technical analysis, and guidance for a small engineering team, while ensuring clear documentation and auditability.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze legacy production workloads (Alteryx, SSIS, SQL Server jobs) to uncover undocumented dependencies and business logic.
• Validate automated analysis reports, resolve discrepancies, and approve implementation plans before code generation.
• Define target lakehouse architecture, ingestion patterns, partitioning, naming conventions and scalability standards.
• Establish data governance, security policies, lineage and access controls using Unity Catalog.
• Provide technical direction, review implementations and unblock up to three engineers simultaneously.
• Act as final technical authority for escalations, exceptions and business ambiguities.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in data engineering and data architecture with ownership of cloud design decisions.
• Proven track record modernizing legacy ETL workloads into lakehouse architectures.
• Strong communication skills in English for technical discussions and documentation.

Required skills

• Apache Spark (production) and PySpark.
• Delta Lake, Medallion architecture, lakehouse patterns.
• Azure cloud data platforms.
• SQL Server, T‑SQL, SSIS.
• Data modeling, data governance, data lineage.
• Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD, pull‑request reviews.
