About the role

The Social Affairs Officer will work in the Subregional Office of ECLAC Mexico, reporting to the Chief of the Social Development Unit. The position supports the analysis, design and monitoring of social development policies and programmes across the region.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct empirical research and social analysis at global, regional and sub‑national levels, develop indicators and methodologies, and draft reports for intergovernmental bodies.
  • Provide technical support for intergovernmental processes, organise expert meetings, prepare briefing documents and represent the unit in international forums.
  • Design and deliver training seminars for national experts, prepare documentation for technical cooperation projects and monitor their implementation.
  • Supervise junior staff, manage administrative tasks and contribute to data‑driven planning through visualisation of trends.

Required profile

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s) in sociology, economics, public policy, development studies or related field (or equivalent combination of a first‑level degree plus two years experience).
  • Minimum five years of progressive experience in socio‑economic development, policy analysis or sociological research, including work in Central America, Mexico, Cuba, Haiti or the Dominican Republic.
  • Experience delivering technical assistance on social policy design or implementation and at least one year of programme/project design experience.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (reading, writing, listening, speaking) at UN Level III; French is desirable.
