Design Engineer, Mechanical Engineering

About the role

Ware Malcomb is seeking a Design Engineer to contribute to building engineering solutions for a diverse client base. The role involves assisting senior staff, preparing technical documentation, and developing expertise in mechanical and building systems design.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Senior Engineer and act as Engineer of Record when assigned, planning project layouts and integrating building systems for client review.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and participate in internal and external project meetings.
• Prepare and supervise scaled drawings, specifications, and contract documents, ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
• Perform engineering calculations using Excel or specialized engineering software for mechanical and building systems.
• Handle construction administration duties such as RFIs, submittal reviews, and on‑site observations.
• Lead field work activities including verification, assessments, and troubleshooting of building system performance.
• Review calculation outputs from engineering software for accuracy and technical compliance.
• Support technical development initiatives and resolve complex design challenges.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• Valid Cédula Profesional in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in building systems or MEP environments.
• Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
• Basic knowledge of financial terms, ability to calculate percentages, and strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

• Revit (mandatory; mechanical system modeling is a plus).
• Excel for engineering calculations.
