Director, Linux Systems Administrator (SRE)

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a visionary leader to head the Site Reliability Engineering function for its VMware and Oracle Linux platforms. The Director will drive transformation, ensure high availability, and align technology initiatives with business outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the strategic roadmap for SRE across distributed platforms.
• Lead modernization projects, including hardware lifecycle management and virtualization upgrades.
• Champion automation, resilience, and continuous improvement culture.
• Build, mentor, and scale a high‑impact SRE organization.
• Oversee health and performance of VMware clusters, ESXi hosts, and Oracle Linux environments.
• Implement and test disaster recovery and high‑availability strategies.
• Drive incident management, root‑cause analysis, and post‑mortem processes.
• Adopt Infrastructure‑as‑Code and automation frameworks using Chef, Ansible, PowerCLI, Python, and Jenkins.

Required profile

• Seasoned leader with deep technical expertise in Linux and virtualization.
• Proven track record of building and scaling high‑performing engineering teams.
• Strong focus on operational excellence, automation, and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into business value.
