Product Development Engineer – Seat Systems

About the role

Ford is looking for a dynamic Product Development Engineer to join the interior systems engineering team focused on seat development. Based in Mexico, you will design, develop, release, and launch complete seat systems and components through Ford's Global Product Development System (GPDS), contributing to the future of automotive comfort and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, release, and launch seat systems or components from PRE‑PSC to J1 within GPDS.
• Manage quality, weight, cost, and timing for assigned parts throughout the product lifecycle.
• Lead and participate in program meetings such as To4, Seat Complete, EMMs, TDRMs, and supplier/purchasing meetings.
• Develop and execute Design Verification Plans (DVP) at system and component levels, ensuring compliance with System Design Specifications and Federal Regulations.
• Create and maintain detailed project schedules (Gantt charts) and track milestones.
• Document recurrence‑prevention actions, lessons learned, and design rules for continuous improvement.
• Coordinate with cross‑functional teams including Seat Structure, Safety, Vehicle Operations, Suppliers, Tool shops, Finance, and Program teams.

Required profile

• Strong engineering background with experience in automotive interior or seat systems.
• Proactive problem‑solver able to work in fast‑paced, cross‑functional environments.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple project timelines.

Required skills

• Knowledge of GPDS processes and Design Verification Plans.
• Understanding of System Design Specifications, Federal Regulations, and Export Market Requirements.
• Ability to create and maintain project schedules (Gantt charts).
