Chief Accountant / Chief Controller

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, detail‑oriented Chief Accountant / Chief Controller to lead the accounting and financial control function of a fast‑growing retail fintech in Mexico. The role is pivotal for ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and accurate reporting to both internal stakeholders and external regulators.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all general accounting operations, including monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes.
• Prepare stand‑alone and consolidated financial statements in accordance with Mexican GAAP (NIF) and the Circular Única de Bancos (CUB).
• Coordinate and submit regulatory reports to CNBV, SAT, Banxico and other authorities.
• Maintain liaison with external auditors, tax advisors and regulators to ensure audit and tax compliance.
• Develop and maintain robust internal control systems over financial reporting and operational accounting.
• Lead, mentor and develop a high‑performing accounting team.
• Implement or upgrade ERP and accounting software, driving automation and efficiency.

Required profile

• Proven experience in accounting and financial control within the banking or fintech sector.
• Deep knowledge of Mexican Financial Reporting Standards (NIF) and the Circular Única de Bancos (CUB).
• Familiarity with US GAAP/IFRS differences as they apply to Mexican banks.
• Experience preparing and filing regulatory reports for CNBV, SAT and Banxico.
• Strong track record of managing audit processes and tax compliance.
• Ability to lead and develop an accounting team.
