Legal Counsel Director

About the role

The Legal Counsel Director will act as the senior legal advisor for the organization, ensuring that all operations in Mexico comply with applicable laws while supporting business objectives. This role combines strategic counsel, risk management, and leadership of the legal function.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive legal advice and leadership to senior management and business units on all matters affecting the company's operations in Mexico.
• Oversee negotiation, drafting, and review of complex contracts and commercial transactions to mitigate legal risks.
• Manage relationships with external legal counsel and regulatory bodies to ensure timely and cost‑effective legal support.
• Lead the development and delivery of compliance programmes, training sessions, and legal policies to foster a culture of corporate integrity.
• Monitor legislative developments and advise on the impact of new laws and regulations.
• Direct and manage any litigation or dispute‑resolution processes involving the company.
• Collaborate with Finance, Operations, and Human Resources to integrate legal insights into business strategies.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to junior legal team members to build a resilient legal department.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with a degree recognised in Mexico and at least 10 years of experience in corporate or business law, preferably in a multinational environment.
• Demonstrated expertise in contract law, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and dispute resolution.
• Strong leadership experience managing legal teams and working closely with senior management.
• Excellent communication skills in both Spanish and English, able to present complex legal information clearly.
• Highly developed analytical, problem‑solving, and negotiation skills with a pragmatic approach to risk management.
• Strong ethical standards and a commitment to confidentiality and integrity.
