Mainframe Subject Matter Expert (SME)

About the role

Kyndryl is seeking a Mainframe Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead a squad of mainframe professionals. You will provide deep technical expertise across enterprise mainframe environments, ensuring stability, performance, and reliability of business‑critical systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage a mainframe squad, offering technical guidance, coaching, and operational direction.
• Act as the SME for mainframe technologies, supporting complex incidents, problem resolution, and technical decision‑making.
• Ensure availability, performance, and stability of enterprise mainframe environments in line with service level agreements.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional and global teams to implement system changes, improvements, and continuous optimization initiatives.
• Promote best practices, documentation standards, and operational discipline to support audit readiness and service quality.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience as a Mainframe SME supporting enterprise‑scale, business‑critical environments.
• Proven team‑leadership experience, including squad leadership, technical mentoring, or delivery coordination.
