Senior PHP & WordPress Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a senior engineer to lead the redesign and migration of complex, content‑rich web platforms to a modern WordPress stack. The role is fully remote for candidates in LATAM and requires close collaboration with our Central‑Time engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement backend systems using PHP 8.x with strict typing, OOP, and Composer.
• Create custom WordPress plugins, hooks, filters, custom post types, and REST APIs while following security and caching best practices.
• Build dynamic Gutenberg blocks and editorial interfaces with React and the @wordpress/* ecosystem.
• Architect scalable application structures and guide migrations from legacy Laravel codebases.
• Write comprehensive unit and integration tests with PHPUnit and Jest.
• Collaborate daily with AI coding assistants, crafting prompts and reviewing generated code before deployment.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional PHP development experience, including modern PHP 8 features.
• Proven track record delivering complex WordPress solutions at a senior level.
• Fluent English communication and ability to work within Central‑Time business hours.

Required skills

• PHP 8.x, Composer, strict typing, enums, readonly properties.
• WordPress core, WP_Query, REST API, multisite, WP‑CLI, caching, security.
• Gutenberg block development, React, @wordpress/* packages, webpack.
• Testing frameworks: PHPUnit, Jest.
• Docker, advanced Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines.
• AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code) and prompt engineering.
