Accountant – General Accounting (US & Mexico GAAP)

About the role

Universal is looking for a skilled Accountant to support month‑end and quarter‑end close processes, ensure the accuracy of fixed‑asset records, and assist with audit schedules. The role requires fluency in both English and Spanish and the ability to work across U.S. and Mexican accounting standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support month‑end and quarter‑end close activities.
• Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate documentation.
• Perform account reconciliations and resolve reconciling items.
• Handle intercompany accounting and related reconciliations.
• Process invoices, credits, billing transactions, and customer account activity.
• Investigate billing, payment, or accounting discrepancies.
• Assist with financial reporting and audit requests.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure timely finance operations.
• Contribute to process improvement, standardization, and automation initiatives.
• Support compliance with internal controls, corporate policies, and accounting standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA or similar accreditation is a plus.
• 3–5 years of general accounting experience.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and spoken).
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Experience traveling to the United States as needed.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CONTPAQi or similar general‑ledger software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Access.
• Familiarity with Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Understanding of U.S. GAAP, Mexican GAAP, and IFRS.
