Automation Engineer – Kobern‑Gondorf (near Koblenz)

About the role

Amazon is looking for an Automation Engineer to join its logistics site in Kobern‑Gondorf, Germany. The role ensures that automated material‑handling equipment and control systems run reliably so that customer orders are fulfilled on time.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor, troubleshoot and repair automated systems, including conveyors and sortation equipment.
• Collaborate with the EU Controls network to track Material Handling Equipment (MHE) metrics.
• Create data visualisations of troubleshooting activities for internal stakeholders.
• Lead or support continuous‑improvement projects within the EU Controls network.
• Maintain accurate documentation, backup libraries and ensure proper system configuration.
• Install and commission new equipment together with global colleagues.
• Provide support to other EU sites as needed.
• Interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and develop improvement strategies compliant with IEC 61131‑3.

Required profile

• Technical background in automation, mechanical or electrical engineering.
• Hands‑on experience with troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and equipment reliability.
• Ability to work independently and share knowledge with engineering technicians.
• Strong analytical mindset and willingness to drive continuous improvement.

Required skills

• PLC programming and IEC 61131‑3 compliance.
• Control‑system and sensor integration.
• Data visualisation tools.
• Interpretation of mechanical and electrical drawings.
• Troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of automated equipment.
