Database Engineer

About the role

Kapsch, a global technology company with an Intelligent Transportation Systems portfolio, is looking for a Database Engineer in Mexico City. The role is responsible for designing, implementing and optimizing the data layer of software solutions, building robust and scalable data services that ensure performance, reliability, security and availability across business-critical applications.

Key responsibilities

• Design and maintain logical and physical database schemas for transactional systems and Data Warehouses, including star and snowflake models.
• Develop SQL Server objects such as tables, views, indexes, stored procedures, functions and triggers.
• Build and maintain data repositories and services using C# and Entity Framework (Code First and Database First).
• Take part in technical design reviews, code reviews and integration testing.
• Design, develop and automate ETL processes with SSIS and other data integration tools.
• Create and maintain OLAP and tabular models with SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).
• Develop reports, dashboards and analytical solutions with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Power BI.
• Optimize T-SQL queries, ETL pipelines and analytical models for performance and scalability.
• Work with business analysts to define KPIs, metrics and reporting requirements, and document models, ETL workflows, coding standards and BI user guides.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing, developing and maintaining databases, Data Warehouses and Business Intelligence solutions, including Power BI.
• Experience with data services and data access layers, REST APIs and web services integration.
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server objects and C# and Entity Framework.
• Experience supporting high-transaction, low-latency and highly available environments.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or a related field.
• Intermediate English, written and spoken.

Required skills

• Strong SQL development, query tuning and performance optimization.
• Experience with GitLab and source control best practices.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, ChatGPT and Codex.
