Field Engineer – Renewable Energy O&M

About the role
CTG LATAM is seeking an O&M Field Engineer to provide independent technical presence across its renewable energy portfolio in Mexico. The role combines hands‑on troubleshooting of solar PV and wind assets with regular on‑site oversight of contractor performance.
Key responsibilities
- Perform field diagnostics on inverters, trackers, SCADA, power plant controllers, communication networks, protection systems and substation equipment.
- Investigate inverter alarms, trips and abnormal conditions, determine root causes and recommend permanent corrective actions.
- Conduct recurring site visits to verify that O&M contractors execute corrective, preventive and remedial work according to CTG technical standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Carry out thermography, IV‑curve testing, insulation resistance, continuity, grounding and functional electrical testing, interpreting results to assess equipment condition.
- Maintain punch‑list tracking of pending actions, follow up with contractors on timelines and technical adequacy.
- Collect field evidence for root‑cause‑analysis investigations and support commissioning, SAT/FAT verification, energisation and testing of new or modified equipment.
- Prepare detailed field visit reports documenting findings, contractor performance and corrective recommendations.
- Support technical audits, independent engineer visits, lender inspections and OEM activities as required.
Required profile
- Technical, associate or bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electromechanical, Mechanical, Power Systems, Renewable Energy Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 2 years experience in utility‑scale renewable energy plants (solar PV, wind or hybrid).
- Hands‑on experience in field troubleshooting, electrical testing, equipment diagnostics and inverter fault analysis.
- Proven ability to verify or audit third‑party contractor work against technical specifications.
- Fluency in Spanish and English (B1 level or higher) for technical coordination.
- Willingness to travel frequently across the project portfolio.
