Junior Software Engineer

About the role

Outset is looking for a Junior Software Engineer to join its Cloud Infrastructure & Platform team. You will help build, operate, and evolve the backend systems that power Tablo devices and the broader Outset application ecosystem. This is a remote‑first position based in Mexico, with occasional travel to the Tijuana or San Jose offices.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enhance features on existing backend services and cloud infrastructure.
• Support operations by monitoring, triaging, and resolving platform and service incidents.
• Build internal tooling and automation to improve team efficiency and system reliability.
• Collaborate on design, implementation, and code reviews across multiple services.
• Participate in on‑call rotation and contribute to operational runbooks.
• Apply AI‑assisted and spec‑driven development practices where appropriate.

• Fast learner who can pick up new technologies and requirements without a detailed playbook.
• Ability to juggle multiple goals and contexts while maintaining clarity on priorities.
• Clear, proactive communicator in both written and verbal English.
• Strong ownership mindset – sees tasks through to completion.
• Practical appreciation for software quality, best practices, and clean engineering.
• Comfortable working on existing systems, understanding them before making changes.

Required skills

• Java with Spring Boot and Maven.
• Experience with AWS services (EC2, ECR, ECS, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, Cognito, SNS, SQS, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, CodePipeline, CodeArtifact).
• Containerization using Docker.
• CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or equivalent).
