Linux Systems Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Linux Systems Engineer to operate and support the Linux servers and shared infrastructure that power research and platform teams. You will work closely with compute, storage, networking and application groups to ensure reliable, secure, and high‑performance services.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, monitor and troubleshoot Linux servers, including system performance, availability, configuration and networking issues.
• Support Kubernetes and other container platforms, handling node health, service behavior and rollout activities.
• Maintain scheduler‑backed compute environments such as Slurm, ensuring node readiness, maintenance and incident recovery.
• Improve user‑facing Linux access services (SSH, shared shells, session‑based platforms).
• Manage OS lifecycle tasks: provisioning, patching, kernel and package updates, and hardening.
• Develop automation scripts in Python, Bash or similar to reduce manual work and increase reliability.
• Apply configuration‑management and version‑controlled workflows (Ansible, Salt, Terraform) for safe infrastructure changes.
• Enhance monitoring, alerting, documentation and operational processes.
• Participate in incident response and occasional on‑call support.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience in Linux systems engineering, SRE, DevOps or infrastructure support.
• Strong Linux administration skills (systemd, package management, permissions, filesystems, log analysis, performance troubleshooting).
• Good understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, NTP/PTP, routing, host connectivity).
• Experience with automation, scripting and operational tooling.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, virtualization or clustered platforms.
• Experience with configuration‑management or IaC tools such as Ansible, Salt or Terraform.
• Ability to troubleshoot production issues methodically and communicate clearly during incidents.
• Hands‑on problem solver with a strong ownership mindset.
