Materials and Processes Engineer – Bearings

About the role

You will join the Materials Engineering team supporting Siemens Energy’s aeroderivative gas turbine product line. The focus is on bearing components – races, balls and housings – ensuring that material selections and metallurgical processes meet demanding performance, durability and reliability requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical input on material, heat‑treatment and surface‑treatment selections for bearing components.
• Approve manufacturing methods, documentation and process specifications to meet design and metallurgical requirements.
• Review and approve drawings, changes, repair methods and non‑conformance reports from a materials perspective.
• Assist root‑cause investigations where material behavior, heat‑treatment response or surface integrity are factors.
• Develop material, heat‑treatment and surface‑treatment specifications and process capability requirements.
• Assess supplier capabilities for heat treatment, nitriding, plating/coating and precision machining.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering or a related discipline.
• Approximately 10 years of experience in materials engineering for precision or critical rotating components, preferably bearings.
• Strong expertise in bearing materials, high‑strength steels, heat‑treatment and surface‑treatment processes.
• Knowledge of metallurgical and non‑destructive testing methods.
• Experience with manufacturing quality systems, non‑conformance handling and process qualification frameworks.
• Fluent English; willingness to travel up to 20 % internationally (French is an asset for Canada).
