Metrology Technician II

About the role

The Metrology Technician II supports Shure’s quality program by performing precision inspection and testing of supplier initial samples. Working under the Metrology Engineer Manager, the role ensures that components meet strict quality standards and assists senior staff with documentation and lab administration.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct inspections and testing of metrology lab material submissions following Shure’s inspection protocols.
• Document and archive inspection reports, samples, and related records using the RFTM workflow system.
• Maintain custodial integrity of lab material submissions and perform basic operator functions on laboratory equipment.
• Create and update work instructions; train quality associates and incoming inspectors as needed.
• Support development and validation of metrology lab procedures to ensure data integrity.
• Set up inspection equipment and guide incoming inspectors.
• Assist the Senior Metrology Technician with mechanical measuring equipment calibrations and calibration record database maintenance.
• Clean and maintain the metrology lab and its equipment.

Required profile

• Technical degree in a technology‑related field.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience with metrology, mechanical inspection, and measuring equipment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Desire to continuously learn and improve metrology knowledge.
• Basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with standard mechanical inspection instruments (microscopes, micrometers, comparators, calipers, height gauges, etc.).
• Experience using a metrology lab workflow management system (RFTM) for record keeping.
• Capability to perform basic calibration of mechanical measuring equipment.
• Familiarity with documentation and archival procedures for inspection results.
