Senior Collections Lawyer

About the role

VALD is seeking a Senior Collections Lawyer to lead the end‑to‑end debt recovery process for a global commercial debtor portfolio. This full‑time, fully remote position requires strong commercial judgment and the ability to manage high‑volume, complex recovery matters across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the complete debt recovery lifecycle, from initial demand letters to litigation, enforcement, settlement and resolution.
• Draft and issue letters of demand, formal legal notices, pleadings, affidavits and settlement agreements.
• Conduct proactive follow‑up with debtors via calls and written communication.
• Initiate and oversee recovery proceedings and legal actions in various jurisdictions.
• Coordinate with external legal counsel worldwide to ensure consistent strategy and compliance.
• Negotiate and structure commercial payment arrangements.
• Maintain accurate, audit‑ready documentation of all recovery activities.
• Ensure compliance with local and international legal frameworks.

Required profile

• Bilingual with English as a second language and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Minimum 3 + years post‑admission experience in debt recovery, litigation or commercial disputes.
• Proven ability to manage matters from instruction through enforcement.
• Strong commercial mindset focused on efficient, practical recovery outcomes.
• Ability to handle a high‑volume caseload while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
• Self‑motivated, autonomous and capable of working with minimal supervision.

Required skills

• Drafting of letters of demand, pleadings, affidavits and settlement agreements.
• Negotiation and dispute‑resolution techniques.
• Knowledge of multi‑jurisdictional debt recovery and enforcement procedures.
