Senior Internal Auditor – Risk-Based Audit Lead

About the role

CIMMYT is seeking a senior internal audit professional to independently lead end‑to‑end audit engagements. The role is strategic, partnering closely with the Head of Internal Audit to refine the organization’s risk‑based audit plan and support enterprise‑wide risk assessments across operations, finance, compliance, IT, governance, and research programs.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver full audit cycles (planning, fieldwork, reporting, follow‑up) in line with Global Internal Audit Standards.
• Support the Head of Internal Audit in maintaining a rolling, risk‑based audit plan and conducting enterprise‑wide risk assessments.
• Identify emerging risks, control weaknesses, governance gaps, and improvement opportunities through risk assessments and advisory reviews.
• Prepare concise audit reports with practical, risk‑focused recommendations for senior management and governance bodies.
• Manage tracking, validation, and reporting of management action plan implementation, escalating delays or ineffective responses as needed.
• Assist in governance reporting, preparing periodic reports, dashboards, and presentations for leadership, audit committees, and the Board.
• Provide independent advisory support on governance, enterprise risk management, internal controls, and process improvement while maintaining objectivity.

Required profile

• Senior‑level internal audit experience with a strong understanding of risk‑based audit methodologies.
• Ability to work independently and lead audit engagements from start to finish.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and reporting skills.
• Proven ability to collaborate with senior leadership and governance bodies.
