Software Development Engineer I

About the role

As a Software Development Engineer I at GM Financial, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high‑quality software that powers our digital finance products. You will collaborate with product managers, architects, and platform teams to turn business needs into robust technical solutions, focusing on domain‑driven API design, cloud‑native development, and AI/ML‑enhanced features.

Key responsibilities

• Build and enhance microservice‑based, domain‑driven APIs and application features using clean, testable code.
• Write secure, maintainable code and participate in code reviews to continuously improve quality.
• Contribute to automated testing (unit and integration) to ensure reliability.
• Apply security best practices and basic performance optimizations; assist with monitoring and troubleshooting production issues.
• Use and improve CI/CD pipelines for efficient build, test, and deployment processes.
• Develop cloud‑technology skills and leverage AI‑assisted development tools where applicable.
• Collaborate actively in Agile ceremonies and cross‑functional team activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in English and Spanish or Portuguese.
• At least 2 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong problem‑solving, communication, and teamwork abilities.

Required skills

• C#/.NET or Java (or similar languages).
• RESTful APIs, HTTP, and JSON.
• Foundational knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
• Version control with Git.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines.
• Basic interest or exposure to AI/GenAI and AI‑assisted development tools.
